DescriptionWhen you want to add high-quality audio to a hardware project—whether you are pulling internet radio streams via an ESP32 or building an interactive voice-response dashboard—you need a dedicated amplification stage. The TDA2030 Audio Amplifier IC is one of the most widely used and trusted audio chips in the world, renowned for its low harmonic distortion and robust power output.Whether you are repairing a set of commercial PC desktop speakers or designing a custom wooden enclosure for a homemade Bluetooth boombox, this single chip provides everything you need to drive a physical speaker cone with precision. The Pentawatt Package & HeatsinkingAs seen in the product image, the TDA2030 utilizes a 5-pin “Pentawatt” package (very similar to the classic TO-220 transistor footprint).Crucial Design Note: Pushing 14 Watts of audio power generates significant heat. The metal tab with the mounting hole at the top of the chip is designed to be bolted directly to an aluminum heatsink. You must use a heatsink when driving speakers at high volumes, or the chip will rapidly reach its thermal limit and temporarily shut itself down to prevent melting.Single vs. Dual Power SuppliesOne of the reasons the TDA2030 is so popular is its power flexibility. It can be wired in two distinct ways:Single Supply: You can power it using a standard laptop brick or heavy-duty DC power supply (ranging from 12V up to 36V). This is ideal for portable, battery-powered projects.Split (Dual) Supply: For true Hi-Fi audio with the lowest possible noise floor, it can be powered by a center-tapped transformer providing both positive and negative voltages (e.g., 12V, Ground, and -12V).Built-In Fault ProtectionAudio circuits can be volatile. Accidentally crossing the speaker wires while the system is on will usually destroy an amplifier instantly. However, the TDA2030 includes a patented short-circuit protection system that automatically limits the dissipated power to keep the internal silicon safe. It also features a thermal shutdown circuit that cuts the audio if the chip gets too hot, making it highly resilient during prototyping.Key Features:Low Distortion: Extremely low crossover and harmonic distortion, ensuring voices and music sound natural and crisp.Minimal External Components: Requires only a handful of standard capacitors and resistors to create a complete amplifier circuit.Wide Voltage Range: Highly adaptable to whatever heavy-duty power supply you currently have on your workbench.Technical Specifications:Output Power (POUT): 14W at 4Ω (18W for TDA2030A)Maximum Supply Voltage: ±18V (Dual) or 36V (Single)Output Peak Current: 3.5AHarmonic Distortion: 0.08% (at POUT = 0.1 to 14W)Frequency Response: ~10Hz to 140kHz (Circuit dependent)Package Form: 5-Pin PentawattIdeal Applications:DIY Bluetooth speakers and portable boomboxesActive subwoofer amplification (often using two chips bridged together)Adding sound to DIY arcade machine cabinetsAudio repair component for commercial 2.1 desktop speaker systems
